Is Republic Day a public holiday?

Republic Day is a public holiday. This is a one-day holiday for the general population, and schools and most businesses are closed.

It falls on Sunday in 2020. Because of this, some businesses may choose to follow the early hours of Saturday.

What do people do?

There is a lot of effort in organizing programs and ceremonies to be held on Republic Day in India. Large military parades are organized in New Delhi and state capitals Representatives of Indian Army, Navy and Air Force and participate in traditional dance troupe parade.
A grand parade is organized in New Delhi and this program is started by the Prime Minister of India by wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate so that the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for their country Had given. The parade culminates with a "fly past" by the Indian Air Force, in which salute for the Presidential post, symbolically flies on the fly. They leave the marks of smoke in the colors of the Indian flag.
There are many national and local cultural programs that focus on India's history and culture. Children have special place in these programs. Many children get the gift of sweet or small toys. A Prime Minister's rally, along with this time of year, is also a public wave - National Folk Dance Festival, which is held every year till 24-29 January.

On January 26 every year, there is a gazetted holiday in India on Republic Day. National, state and native government offices, post offices and banks are closed on this date. Stores and other businesses and organizations can close or reduce the opening hours.

India became freelance from the uk on August 15, 1947. At this time India did not have a permanent constitution. The formation committee submitted the first draft of the constitution to the National Assembly on 4 November 1947. On January 24, 1950, the National Assembly signed the final English and Hindi language versions of the Constitution.
On January 26, 1950, the Constitution of India came into effect on Republic Day. This date was selected as the anniversary of the full Swaraj Day, which was held on January 26, 1930. The Constitution gave power to the citizens of India to choose and govern themselves.
